It's a known fact that sitting all day is not good for our bodies or health, and yet so many of us still do it eight hours (or more!) a day due to having desk jobs. Unfortunately, sitting too much has been linked to increased blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and even cancer. Scary, we know. That being said, there are ways we can combat this modern epidemic and keep our health in check — it just takes some conscious effort.
From hacks you can do throughout the day to stretches that'll activate and lengthen those sedentary muscles, keep reading for ways you can counteract the effects of sitting all day.
50-Minute Rule
If you sit all day, one of the most crucial things you should do is stand up and move at least once every hour. We'll call this the "50 minute rule," as you should spend 10 minutes moving for every 50 minutes you sit. While standing is better than doing nothing at all, the real benefit comes from mobility. Go for a walk, stretch, just do anything that's not sedentary. If you need to, set an alarm as a reminder.
