Giving back through fashion

Renowned and upcoming creators will gather at The Fifth at Rockwell, Powerplant Mall from 11 to 13 October for Fora by FilipinaZ, an art, design and fashion fair organized by the Zonta Club of Makati alongside Environs.

The fair will gather established, as well as up-and-coming artisans who will exhibit their art and creativity; well-curated designs and booths. Artisans include Filipino artist Juvenal Sanso, legendary fashion designer Ben Farrales and award-winning industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue.

It also aims to bring to the limelight women artists in partnership with White Walls Gallery. Fairgoers can also expect an archival exhibition — a selection of vintage pieces that will be available for purchase — from Ben Farrales as a tribute to his artistic prowess.

Another thing to look forward to is the creations from fashion students and alumni of SoFA Design Institute, Fashion Institute of the Philippines and the Institute of Creative Entrepreneurship: Fashion, Arts & Design (ICE-FAD).

Fora by FilipinaZ is an evolution of the Zonta ladies’ annual bazaar and pop-ups and, since then, has become the organization’s biggest and most important fundraising activity which supports their mission of advancing women through advocacy and service. The event will also allow the women of Zonta to continue to provide healthcare services, rehabilitation projects and livelihood programs for unfortunate women.

Uplifting local treasures

In hopes of unveiling and highlighting the beauty of weaves and textiles to more people, HABI: The Philippine Textile Council will take its guests on a #HABIJourney at the 9th Likhang HABI Market Fair from 11 to 13 October at the Glorietta 3 Activity Center in Makati City.

#HABIJourney will take its participants into the world of weaving in the HABI Craft Corner where they will be taught the basics of weaving to help them create their own product using pure Philippine cotton and other natural local fibers.

In line with this, Likhang HABI Market Fair also aims in promoting Filipino culture and heritage by having a Baybayin workshop teaching its participants lessons about the pre-colonial ancient writing script of the Philippines.

Fifty-two merchants from all over the country will participate in the event and feature sustainable, environmentally-friendly and ethical fashion and lifestyle products using traditional textiles such as habol negrense from Negros Occidental, yakan from Basilan, inaul from Maguindanao, binubudan from Ifugao, binakol and abel from Ilocos and tepina from Palawan.
